The Great British Pothole

If you are driving on the roads of North Devon you will notice that there has been a particular decline in their condition recently. Potholes seem to be appearing overnight and whilst repairs are being made, there are many dangerous potholes that remain on our roads. This causes damage to vehicles and even the increase in the risk of accidents as drivers attempt to avoid the holes. The road between Ilfracombe and Woolacombe is particularly bad considering this is well used in the season for caravans, vans and cars alike!

There is something you can do to help North Devon council plot the hazards and schedule them for repair! If you see a pothole you can report the location on the North Devon council website and here is the link! The hole may have already been reported but in many cases, they are not so its always worth checking and making a report.

The problem is so severe that the RAC have created a guide of potholes and include links on their website to fixmystreet which is another online reporting scheme which covers the whole of the UK. Further information can be found here and with names such as the Great British pothole, the slalom and the Alcatraz it’s definitely worth a read!

If you do damage your vehicle by driving over a pothole you can make a claim for the repair costs. Make a note of the nearest lamppost, take pictures of the hole and damage to your vehicle at the site if safe to do so and contact North Devon council to begin the claims process.
